A few days ago, Boston University sued complaints against Samsung Electronics LED patent violations in Massachusetts District Court. According to the complaint, the Boston University sued that Samsung “ongoing deliberately” infringe its patent, involved Patent No. 5,686,738 and 6,953,703.
Complaints deem the tort occurred in the introduction and sale of LED devices, the device is made by highly insulating monocrystalline gallium nitride single crystal films in molecular beam reaction chamber. And deems that Samsung infringed its patent (semiconductor devices is produced though sapphire substrate exposed to reactive nitrogen).
Boston University further deems that semiconductor devices are not the material changes through follow-up process, and also not non-essential part of other product, so the LED devices made and sales by Samsung is violated the Federal Patent Act, and thus the production and sales of the Samsung LED devices. Trustee of Boston University is request compensation from Samsung for patent infringement.
