IP rating also named as INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION, is defined by the IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION). It’s for grading the lamp in accordance with its dust / object protection level (protect from intrusion of objects) and waterproof level (protect from water and moisture). The objects referred here include: tools, fingers and so on.
IP protection level is formed by two figures, the first digit represent dust protection rating, and the second number indicates anti-moisture and waterproof rating, the higher the number the higher protection rating.
A. The first digit represent degree of dust protection:
1 indicates to prevent the intrusion of solid objects that are greater than 50mm.
Protect from d-A object (such as the hand) touch the inside of the lamp parts by accident. Prevent the intrusion of larger size (objects diameter greater than 50mm).
2 indicates to prevent the invasion of objects that are greater than 12mm.
Prevent the intrusion of person’s fingers and other objects with medium size (diameter greater than 12mm, the length is greater than 80mm).
3 indicates to prevent the invasion of solid objects are greater than 2.5mm.
Prevent the objects (tools, wires or similar) with diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm to touch the inside parts of lamps.
4 indicates to prevent the invasion of solid objects are greater than 1.0mm.
Prevent the objects (tools, wires or similar) with diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm to touch the inside components of lamps.
5 indicates dust protection.
Prevent the intrusion of objects completely, it can not prevent dust intrusion completely, but the amount of dust intrusion can’t affect the normal operation of the lamps.
6 indicates complete dust protection.
Prevent the intrusion of objects and dust completely.
B. The second digit means the degree of waterproof:
0 indicates no Protection.
1 indicates prevent the intrusion of drip.
Vertical drop of water droplets on the lamp will not cause harmful effects.
2 indicates prevent the intrusion of drip that be tilted 15 degrees.
When the lamp is tilted 15 degrees, water dripping on the lamp will not cause harmful effects.
3 indicates to prevent the intrusion of spraying of water.
Prevent the lamp from the rain or spraying water with the angle less than 600 degrees from perpendicular.
4 indicates to prevent the intrusion of splash water.
Prevent lamp from splash of water of all directions.
5 indicates to prevent the intrusion of jet water.
Prevent the light from water jet of all directions.
6 indicates to prevent the intrusion of big waves.
Lamp installed on the deck, and can bear the invasion of big waves.
7 indicates to prevent lamp from damaged when soaked in water.
Protect lamps when immersed in water under certain time or certain water pressure.
8 indicates to prevent lamp from damaged when sank in water.
Protect lamps from damage when submerged in water under certain water pressure permanently, and ensure that no harm caused by water.
